This is what I have come to know: Self-Care is showing respect to yourself – body, mind, emotions and soul!

Actually, self-care forms a very important daily component of personal leadership and what I have come to understand is that no matter which way you look at it you cannot successfully show up fully in your life without it.

I have come to learn this the hard way having come up from a family where nothing but hard work and long hours doing so were the only way to live.

Of course over time living life like this way didn’t serve me well and I learnt about self-care the hard way … burn out after burn out!

So what is self-care and why is it so important in personal leadership and success?

At its core Self-Care is all about listening to the whispers from your body, mind, emotions and spirit – they are speaking to you and letting you know what they need. They never want, they only need.

These whispers may come in the form of rest both physically, mentally, the whisphers could also come in the form of an emotional release, physical activity, silencing the mind or taking time out from the hustle and bustle of your daily life.

There are many ways to introduce self-care into your day to day life, here are a few suggestions:

  • Have fun with yourself and those that you love
  • Explore the world locally or globally and feed your wanderlust and your inspiration
  • Exercise at the pace your body needs- don’t push it and don’t punish it
  • Set boundaries that honor you
  • Practice the art of gratitude and thankfulness
  • Be present in the moment
  • Feed your body with delicious goodness
  • Breathe
  • Be mindful in the moment

These are just a few!

When we consciously choose to practice self-care in our lives, we begin to notice that we start to thank ourselves with more energy, clarity and we have focus on what is important in your life.

So, when we are respecting that our bodies, mind, emotions and soul and treating them with all of the kindness, compassion and nurturing that they need, this is self-care!
